Abstract

In Del sentimiento trágico de la vida, Unamuno establishes the foundation of his religious sentiment that can be exercised by flesh-and-blood persons immersed in existential anguish. This Unamunian attempt at religion differs from the traditional options that pretend to give meaning to a life without foundation. This article analyzes Miguel de Unamuno's thought on its religious component. It is a presentation of Unamuno as an author who writes compelled by the desire for immortality, who turns the tragic feeling into an original work born in a context full of existential and religious contradictions. To explain philosophically the tragic thelos, Unamuno makes of agony the symptom of authentic life, constitutive of a work that, in his case, merges into a single existential reality. We will conclude by reflecting on an Unamunian religion similar to a quixotism.
