Abstract

Following viewpoints advanced by Claudinei Aparecido de Freitas da Silva, the article has as a starting point his analysis of the phenomenological distinction established by Edmund Husserl between Körper (objective body) and Leib (lived body) and its resignification in Gabriel Marcel’s phenomenology by means of the association of the lived body with a primal feeling (Urgefühl). Secondly, it is shown that the divergence of methods is balanced by convergences in the examination of particular problems―a kinship and discordance tressed by Paul Ricoeur. Husserl advocates an emotional intentionality directed to a secure hope and characterizes its distinctive traits as regards both religion, God, and hope. A similar analysis can be found in Marcel and renders possible a comparison point by point. Finally, it is shown that these standpoints bring forth two different manners of facing the relationship between hope tied to objects and worldly situations and hope opened to a transobjective, extramundane, and divine dimension. It is argued that the link between the two modes of hope is structured in each case as a teleological integration, an absolute contrast, or a reciprocal interaction.
