Abstract

This study was conducted with a group of teachers in 1999 and another in 2000. Its objectives were to verify the teaching methods used by Physical Education teachers in the municipal network of Marechal Cândido Rondon (PR) during these years and provide proper guidance. In the first phase (1st semester), observations were conducted to identify the predominant teaching methods applied by Physical Education professionals in their daily classes through descriptions of the activities developed — qualitative research. For this, four categories of analysis based on various authors were created: directive, semi-directive, non-directive, and relational. After the observations, the results for each teacher involved in the research were presented and discussed, and appropriate guidance based on Motor Education was provided. Then, in the second phase (2nd semester), the procedure was repeated, allowing changes (or lack thereof) to be observed. Shortly after each class observed in the 2nd semester, a meeting was held between the researcher/supervisor and the teaching teacher to discuss teaching methods and alternative solutions for the activities. The results were significant, as in both years, the directive results found in the 1st semester were reversed into relational attitudes in the 2nd semester, thus demonstrating the importance of Continuing Education (in this case, post-university follow-up) as a primary model for achieving qualitative changes in Education.
