Abstract

This article presents an experience report developed within the context of Basic Education, involving students from a public school in the state of Paraná, Brazil, who are participants in the Global Youth Climate Pact (GYCP) Program and a Science Club affiliated with the Paraná Faz Ciência and Climate Emergency Research and Innovation Networks (NAPIs). Grounded in the principles of Environmental Education, the study aims to report the pedagogical actions carried out through work with native Brazilian bees and to reflect on their limitations and potential for articulating discussions related to the climate emergency. The research adopts a qualitative approach and is characterized as participatory research. Data collection was conducted through participant observation, recorded in a field journal. A total of 20 students, aged between 11 and 14 years, took part in the activities. The results indicate that these practices fostered youth protagonism, enhanced understanding of ecological interaction networks, and promoted students’ awareness of the impacts of climate change on biodiversity. It is concluded that working with native bees constitutes a relevant pedagogical strategy for addressing the climate emergency in the school context.
