Abstract

With the objective of evaluate the pos-harvest control of anthracnose in banana, were made assays using Artemisia camphorata medicinal plant (camphor) and chitosan (B- 1,4 glucosamine polymer). To in vitro tests was meansured the mycelial growth of Colletotrichum musae in solid and liquid media containing 10, 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400 ug/ml of chitosan (dissolved or not in HCl 0.04 N), or 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25% of camphor (fresh wegh/volume). In vivo was evaluated the post-harvest control by immersing banana fruits for 3 min in the chitosan solutions or camphor extracts, using as control treatments Benomyl (0,25 g/l) and distillated water. The results showed that camphor inhibited 41% the mycelial growth in 32% and increment of the sporulation, while in liquid medium there was inhibition of the growth in 48%. The severity of anthracnose was reduced to 67%, 63% and 56% for camphor, chitosan and fungicide treatments, respectively. These results indicate the potencial of A. camphorata and chitosan to the post-harvest control of C. musae in banana.
