Abstract

The escalation of Law within politics relationships and national sociability presentsa new scenario from a normative viewpoint. Several laws and amendments in civil procedurallaw now guarantee more access to the justice, not only for setting conflicts but also forincreasing political participation and revealing a new road toward the civic exercise and theeffectiveness of democratic processes. If the new legislation is judicially encouraging, fromthe angle of less favoured social strata and citizens with a lower education or income, thosechanges have not been fully assimilated, though. Among the causes of such gap between lawand social reality, we must highlight precariousness of information, lack of confidence in theLawful State, and disbelief in the justice system toil altogether. The negative image is furtherreinforced by the way in which television- or the common citizen’s medium par excellencetreatsinformation, especially information newscast by the so-called ‘open TV’ channels.
