This study aims to examine the discourses surrounding the inauguration of the Housing Set Dirceu Arcoverde II through the lens of the press. Employing a qualitative analytical method, we seek to understand how newspapers were used as true showcases and narrative spaces for the private sector, represented by construction companies that, in partnership with the state, were directly involved in the development of the neighborhood. These actors appropriated for themselves the leading role in the city of Teresina’s modernization process. Drawing on a theoretical and methodological framework, we employ authors such as Fontineles and Sousa Neto (2017) to examine the construction process of the housing complex; Darnton (1990), Barbosa (2010), and Becker (2003) to discuss the role of the press in historical production; and Carlos (2007) to address debates on urban space. Among the main findings of the research, it becomes clear that the press, by granting privileged space for companies to narrate their own actions, contributed to the construction of an imaginary in which progress is attributed to private initiative, even when financed and implemented with public resources. The result is a city narrated by corporations, legitimized by journalism, and presented to the president as a showcase of success, leaving no space for the population to act as subjects of discourse.
