Abstract

The article aims to identify the main determinants economic and social of fecundity in Brazil. Recently, the demographic transition has drawn the attention of researchers and policy makers, especially since changes in the age distribution of the population alter the socio-economic dynamics and state demands. It is used in research the Multivariate Analysis Principal Component with data from National Household Sample Survey 2012. The results showed significant correlations between the number of children and educational variables, access to information, income and urbanization. Furthermore, it was found a group formed by factors as number of children, urbanization and occupation. When analyzed these components in factorial plan, it was found that the total number of children is closer to residence location variable.
