Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the empirical evidence of applied studies on the Bolsa Família Program in Brazil, in the area of applied social sciences, and point at what points in future work on the topic may come forward. Empirical evidence of the Bolsa Família Program highlight positive aspects in promoting social development in the territories from the actions of the program, but there are aspects questioned regarding conditionalities and coverage of the program. The gaps presented by studies addressing this issue are short periods of time to analyze aspects of the program, concentration studies in the Northeast and Southeast regions at the expense of others, studies covering aspects of Bolsa Família for the whole country with no differentiation by states or regions and compared with the use of Decentralized Management Index (IGD).
