Abstract: Palm trees of the Attalea genus are widely distributed, serving as food, shelter and mainly as a source of phytoconstituents of secondary metabolism with therapeutic potential. In this context, the objective was to describe the antimicrobial potential of palm trees of the genus Attalea native to the Brazilian Cerrado. This was proposed through a literature review attributing descriptors such as Attalea, palm trees, therapeutic potential and Cerrado in the three main languages and in the databases. The results observed were that, among the diversity of species, only four (A. speciosa, A pharelata, A. burretiana and A. oleífera) showed bacterial inhibition results (Gram positive or negative). Finally, the investigation of the bioactive compounds of these plants showed a great antimicrobial potential.
Key Words: Attalea. Palm trees. Bacterial inhibition. Bioactive compounds.
