Abstract

Defined as the founder of the modern political thought, NicolauMaquiavel is one of the central authors in Western history, even in theworld history. His reflections about State have made him a classic in humansciences and an author indispensable to understand the current politicaldynamic. This year “The Prince” is achieving its 500th birthday. Despitefive centuries of its publication, the “little” book continues tosurprise its readers for its originality. According to Antonio Gramsci, besidesthe universal contribution to the realm of politics, Maquiavel was alsoan author intensely dedicated to Italian particularities. In the prism ofGramsci, Maquiavel can be considered a large counterpoint to Renaissancistcosmopolitism. The florentine secretary contributed to the developmentof Gramsci´s reflections about intellectuals and political parties.
