Abstract

The present article has as perspective understand the process of colonization and occupation of borders between Argentina and Brazil, described by travellers Argentines and Brazilians during the 19th and 20th centuries. The border was described as "wild" (or empty space) to be colonized, definition given by those who ventured into their travel to the border regions of their countries. From the History Compared and Transnational it seeks to understand the importance of the reports of travellers, in order to analyze their observations on a given site and transmit this information to a public culturally close and geographically remote, being until then ignored by this culture. It uses, as source the reports of travelers to describe the first impressions on the marketing process and occupation (ownership) of the land and of the confrontations and conflicts that the same generated among indians, settlers, immigrants and companies colonizing in the border area. However, it is the hypothesis that the trips to the border had as main factor reporting the riches available at the border, to subsequently occurs the process of occupation and colonization of these areas.
