Abstract

We often address the issue of adherence to evangelical churches in terms of disruptions to Catholicism in the ethos and in the social networks and also in the political and economic behaviours. In order to discuss this dominant hypothesis, I will analyse the rules of constitution of an evangelical congregation in a "community" which is defined as Catholic, from a study of Amazonian case. Then we will see that in addition to these ruptures, you can identify various continuities in practices and used religious categories and many shared values. Therefore, it argues that the Catholic community and the evangelical congregation are two embodiments of the same organizational model in which the socio-political issues are dealt with from the religious perspective. It seems to me, therefore, that the success of the evangelical movement is linked to its ability to provide new symbolic and discursive tools in highly political disputes.
