Abstract

This paper proposes a reading of the story "Los desterrados" by the Uruguayan writer Horacio Quiroga, published in 1926. In the first part of the text we will discuss the border-frontier as concepts that run through the story and the author's own work. In the second section of the paper, we will interpret the death of the characters, João Pedro and Tirafogo as a symbol of their border identity. Finally, we will analyse the role of margins and borders-frontiers in the construction of National States in a non-hegemonic perspective of power relations.
