Abstract

This study aims to explore the formulation of Simmel of the relations of reciprocity and the relations of domination, through the establishment of the central concept of his thought, the reciprocal conditioning [Wechselwirkung]. We seek to accentuate the paradoxical configuration of these specific interactions that reveal, from opposing perspectives, the foundation of human interaction, determined at the same time, both the propensity to power and distinction that belongs to individuals who act in an interaction; as the tendency to harmony and unity of the groups resulting from these interactions. Throughout the text we try also demonstrate that these two types of interaction are homologous, as are specific forms of expression of the same fundamental configuration.
