Abstract

One of the studies about the leadership of women from African descendantreligions was City of Women, by Ruth Landes, in Bahia. Part of this academic heritagecontributes to put aside from the academic analyses manifestations related to the same rootslocated at the Northwest Region of the country. Juazeiro do Norte, in the state of Ceará hasbeen constructed as the cradle of the catholic manifestations. Our aim here is to listen to thefemale leadership. At the same time it examines the contemporary situations of thosetemples. The objective is to observe the place of the African beliefs, in the region. Theresearch includes eight religious temples (casas de candomblé). This is an on goinginvestigation developed by Núcleo Brasileiro, Latino-Americano e Caribenho de Estudos emRelações Raciais, Gênero e Movimentos Sociais from Universidade Federal do Ceará, campusCariri.
