Abstract

In the advertising campaign for the shaver Male Grooming by Philips there is a no linguistic sign – the fighter Anderson Silva’s beard – through which certain speeches are erased, while others are spread out. It’s proposed a thesis that the enunciation “Eu poderia ser quem eu quisesse” (I could be whatever I wanted promotes a seduction game which implies the main part of the liberal discourse which we name as the discursive formation of the meritocracy in which the notion that someone can reach any social status, independently of his material conditions. The study is guided by the French Analysis of the Discourse; takes into consideration the conditions of emergency production of the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in the Brazilian media.
