Abstract

This work therefore aims to investigate the models of literacy, developed by Lea and Street (1998), which are underlying the four classes, by a Languages Course professor from a private university in the city of São Paulo, about the critical review genre. For analysis, we have focused on transcribed excerpts from those classes, which were obtained through audio recording. Analysis of the corpus reveals and reinforces that – in the academic literacy process – it is natural for the professor to adhere to more than one model of literacy in order to teach a given speech genre, being that a model can come up as more dominant in relation to others. The problem comes up when the dominant literacy pattern does not encompass the singularities of the public served by the teaching institution.
