Abstract

The present paper intends to accomplish a historical study about the theories that treat of the tragic gender. In greater number, the studies about this gender begin through the Aristotelian propositions, indicating the Greeks, as creators of this art. Like this, also the present study reviews what Aristotle describes about the tragedy, for after to move forward concerning other experts in different times thought about such gender. The objective, here, is to arrive to a possible understanding about the tragedy in our time. The tragic always caused interest in the most different areas of the
knowledge, from specialists in theories of the arts, educators, historians, playwrights, philosophers, psychologists, among other, what demonstrates how interesting and pertinent the theme is shown.
