Abstract

Augusto Matraga, Guimarães Rosa’s character, an authoritative farmer, loses everything, is humiliated. Living a poor life, his transformation is based in the pain, in meeting the sacre and the disposition to serve, crossing a road to meet himself, while he hopes to have his hour and his time. This article analyses this character, taking as theorical support Van Genepp’s theory about rites of passage and the heroes trajectory, according to Campbell and Pearson’s point of view, besides giving a brief view on Analytical Psychology, by Jung.
