Abstract

This study has the intend of analyzing how O Delfim - Jose Pires Cardoso romance, published and republished in 1968 – tells a history of a writer who returns to a village, where he was used to hunt, and he sees the world in decline. The narrator is the conscience that reveals the end of that world and the history is centered in the perishing of a noble family, with a medieval style. The romance is a parody of the Portugal history and from it decadence because of constant loss of prestige and social status.
