Abstract

This paper discusses the teachers’ performance and its relation with their initial and continuous education in current days, by comparing contributions from Nóvoa, Azanha, Bottega, Dias-da-Silva, D’Ambrósio and Bueno, Catani and Sousa. The aim is to reinforce the need of the government to support teachers by facilitating the schools’ action and promoting in-service development of teachers, together with a competent action by the educational institutions of both the initial and the continuous education.
