Abstract

The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) was a milestone in history by their traumatic effects caused by the fratricidal conflict that devastated the Spanish Republic and caused the exile and the death of thousands of people. Therefore, it is the historic event that divided the country into the two Spains described by the poet Antonio Machado. In the decade of 1990, contrary to what had happened before, the generation of the grandchildren of war began to inquire about this tragic past that had marked the history of their close ancestors. In the Spanish context, a process to recover the historical past through the literary fiction arises. Autobiografía del general Franco is a novel by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán that restores the history of anti-Francoism from the ruins of Francoism. The article aims to examine how the re-reading of this history occurs by means of metafictional processes.
