Abstract

The objective of this paper is to talk about the relation between the sense of honor and the social role of women. The analysis will be conducted upon the book “Quem não perdoa" written by the Brazilian playwrite from the beginning of the 20th century, Júlia Lopes de Almeida. We will discuss the social-cultural formation of Brazilian men in terms of economic and educational issues, political power, and the role of white women from the elite of the Fluminense society of that time. We will emphasize the issue of the redemption of male honor with female blood.
