Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper aims at reflecting about reader’s and identitary education provided by Children's Literature. Thus, this study will be based on the literary work named as "O cabelo de Lelê" written by Valéria Belém, in 2007. Children's literature, when present in child's life, offers an amount of information and representations, by which the reader can develop new knowledge and values that help in solving life situations. According to Aguiar and Bordini (1993), the full enjoyment of a literary text happens on the aesthetic achievement of meanings, as much the subject reads a literary work, as much he builds images that will intertwine and complete each other - and they can change themselves - supported on verbal and nonverbal clues provided by the writer and in the contents of his consciousness. So, mostly, children's literature contribute to reader’s education, child’s identity and those whose subjects contribute to ethnic and racial issues can also help on encouraging reflections on racial discrimination as well as on giving conceptions of belonging to an African descent child when she sees herself represented there.
