Abstract

BACKGROUND: Soccer is the most popular professional sport in the world, with intermittent actions of short duration and high intensity. The repetition of these actions can affect skeletal muscle, resulting in functional deficits. Specific tests assess athletes’ performance in actions such as jumps, sprints, and dribbles, crucial for muscular power during the game.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and correlate the power, flexibility, fatigue, and stability of the lower limbs in under-20 athletes from professional football clubs in Caxias do Sul.
METHODS: Forty-three male under-20 athletes from professional football clubs in Caxias do Sul participated in the study. Flexibility was assessed using the Wells bench, power and fatigue were assessed using the Vertical Jump and Running Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST), lower limb stability was assessed using the Y Balance Test, and lower limb stability was assessed using the step-down test. Data were correlated using Pearson correlation and chi-square tests, and ANOVA was used to assess relationships between positions, with a significance level of p <0.05 for all analyses.
RESULTS: It was observed that athletes with better flexibility also had better vertical jump and greater lower limb stability.
CONCLUSION: The practical applicability of these results directly relates to training, highlighting the importance of good flexibility in improving other physical capacities and even reducing the risk of injury. These measures directly favor the improvement of sports performance, contributing to better individual and collective performance in the sport.
