Abstract

The mandatory character of the discipline of sociology in the school curriculum
recently acquired not only increased the interest in the area of education, but made the
revitalization of such discussion was necessary. Therefore, the objectives of the teaching
methodologies adopted and returned to space for discussion, as well as reflection on the
training of teachers currently in office. The main purpose of this article is to make the fist
analysis of the profile of teachers of social science at the municipality of Toledo/PR and,
secondarily, to extend theis observations, to extend their observations to understand the
placement of these professionals faze daily obstacles of teaching practices. The educational
proposals, the resistance encountered, the methodologies adopted and efforts to ensure
continuous improvement are some of the points addressed in this study. For both, there
were eleven’s interviews with teachers who teach the discipline in the region of interest
during the first months of 2010. Taking into account the development of a quality look to the
information collected, the number of interviews was achieved by saturation of the responses,
the collection was interrupted for the approach of similarity between the responses became
constant. The survey instrument used corresponded to a semi-structured questionnaire
containing eighteen open-ended questions answered in writing by teachers themselves. The
intention was to ensure greater freedom to research participants and enable them to reflect
on their own practices in the mediated who attended or responded to inquiries made.
