ASPECTOS DA LÍNGUA KAINGANG

As línguas indígenas brasileiras expressam, antes de tudo, patrimônio cultural da nação. Não existem “índios”, mas sim povos indígenas, sociedades distintas com organizações sociais muito complexas. Esses povos são cerca de 220 no Brasil, tendo-se aproximadamente 170 línguas vivas. Segundo Aryon Rodrigues, um dos mais importantes pesquisadores das línguas indígenas brasileiras, “é provável que na época da chegada dos primeiros europeus ao Brasil, o número das línguas indígenas fosse o dobro do que é hoje”. (1986, p. 19). Neste sentido, este trabalho procura mostrar aspectos de umas das línguas indígenas com maior número de falantes no Brasil: o Kaingang. O povo que a fala é um dos mais populosos do país, sendo que o censo 2010 do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatísca aponta este povo como o terceiro em número de população, com 37.470 indivíduos, sendo que o povo Tikuna é o mais populoso (46.045), seguido pelo povo Guarani Kaiowa (43.401). Seus integrantes vivem nos três estados da região Sul do país e também no oeste de São Paulo. São falantes da língua que dá nome à etnia e identificados geneticamente ao tronco linguístico Macro-Jê.
