Abstract

Considering the dramatic impact caused by the film score, we understand how important studies in the area are. Thus, this paper aims to conduct a brief analysis of the musical works present on the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey", directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the listener act of perceiving. Using content and concept analysis, we tried to identify the Michel Chion's listening modes on the movie's songs. We also try to understand the importance of the film score and demonstrate the dramatic power that silence can cause. We conclude that the film score may contain additional information when analyzed also by sociocultural concepts.
