For the right and pride of being heterosexual on the third sunday of December

Abstract

This text is intended to approach the book Pelo direito e orgulho de ser heterossexual no terceiro domingo de dezembro, authored by Héliton Diego Lau, in which the author seeks to analyze the justification of two law’s project with a view to the institution of Heterosexual Pride Day. In order to undertake the analysis, considerations about binarism in Portuguese are established, as well as a panorama of how (homo)sexuality was perceived and experienced in the ancient civilizations, besides bringing to the debate the vision of (homo)sexuality from a cut of the medical and social sciences, and also to what extent the discourses about sexuality in contemporary times have been configured. Lau also elaborates a reflection on how bodies and their physical presentation are related to the identity of the individuals' genders, and also how the issue of gender identity and sexuality is approached in official teaching documents in Brazil and the Paraná State. In order to establish a counterpoint, and to corroborate the analysis presented in Lau's book, we also mention Angenot's approach and his conception of the concept of “social discourse”, since it proposes to establish discussions that can emphasize the constant presence of disagreement among men and indicate their role and value in building social bonds.
