Abstract

The song Os "Argonautas", which was composed and interpreted by Caetano Veloso, was launched in 1969. When we hearing the chorus of this song, we conduct our mind to Fernando Pessoa’s poem, "Palavras de Pórtico", since the singer reproduces the phrase "To sail is necessary, to live is not necessary". According to Bakhtin, the language, in its totality, is dialogic, because every discourse finds a discourse mentioned by someone and creates with it a live and tense interaction. Therefore, focus on Bakhtin theory, this article intends to establish the dialogism between Fernando Pessoa’s poem, "Palavras de Pórtico", and Caetano Veloso’s song, "Os Argonautas". Hence, it will analyze what the hypertext adds, subtracts, dislocates and inverts of Pessoa’s poem, in order to apprehend the construction of a world conception differentiated from the conception found in the hypotext.
