Assuming great importance in the academic trajectory of students, university extension strengthens the relationship and exchange of knowledge between university and community. The study in question addresses the potential of a popular pre-university course in relation to pedagogical content knowledge, initial teacher training and dialogue between the university and society. It aims to discuss university extension based on a case study that addresses the experience of a pre-university course carried out in state educational institutions where the University Colleges of the Federal University of Southern Bahia operate, linked to the challenge of the post pandemic period. Based on Freire's principles of popular education and on studies by Lee Shulman and Tardif, this study explores the different contributions of this action to pedagogical content knowledge (teacher training) and the reinvention of the university, with a commitment to social transformation and democratization of knowledge.
