Abstract

This article aims to discuss, albeit briefly, the evolution of the use of blood,

both as a representative language but also as a work material. Connecting art and blood, not

attaining to the relationship between them. Reinforcing the way blood is presented in many

artworks, and has been placed as belonging to History, Art and human evolution, it changes

and grows, as humankind itself. The purpose of this text is to generate in the reader reflections

about the presence of the organic element, especially when we think about the poetry of artists

who have added, and still provide value to the use of blood as an essential material for works

elaboration. The power of objective or subjective communication regarding to some works

that contains blood was present in several narratives from past artists, and since the end of the

60’s until nowadays is used as an essential material at performances and installations.
