RICHARD RORTY AND ROLE OF LITERATURE

This study aims to summarize and outline the proposal developed by Richard Rorty about the literature have the role to be the new redemption for the contemporary Western man. Thus, it would replace the religion and philosophy. To this end, the study was divided into two parts: 1. Richard Rorty and the neopragmatism; 2. The function of literature to Richard Rorty. The theoretical foundation was used the article by Rorty: The decline of redemptive truth and the rise of literary culture. In addition to essay, they were used: Rorty (1991a, 1991b, 2005, 1998 and 1995), Carlos (2003), Carvalho Filho (2009) and Medoux (2009). Finally, it is stated that in spite of objections and criticisms that can be made to the proposal for Rorty, one must realize that he made a deep analysis of Western history in the last five centuries and, through this analysis, he was able to propose a new role for literature in the WestDownloads
