Abstract

The aim of the present work is to investigate the book Da morte. Odes mínimas (1980) by Hilda Hilst (1930-2004), considering the treatment given to the death matter. Major subject of poetry, death has in the poetry of Hilda Hilst a double character: is, at the same time, the end of existence as we know and a path for the poetry to survive, and poetry has its own way of being triumphant. For the discussion of the theme, we rely on some important propositions from Erwin Panofsky and Mikhail Bakhtin about mortality discursive role. We also considered the relations between death and erotism, suggested by Georges Batailles’ O erotismo, which has an important influence in Hilst’s work.
