Abstract

This article focuses on the notion of presupposition contained in the presentation of the paraguayan book Nuestra America, and in the brazilian book  História Hoje, used in the 6th grade of primary school. It starts with the assumption that information is assumed to mean more than the explicit content, which might sound obvious, but is not configured as an exercise in reading survey. The objective is, from the linguistic content, observe how the authors of these publications construct conceptions about history and the profile of their own textbook. It is considered that the paraguayan material is more directive, while the brazilian is based on a broader perspective. The analysis is guided mainly on Ducrot (1972, 1987).
