Abstract

This study refers to the analysis of some characteristics of the play Othello by the English dramatist William Shakespeare. We analyze some possible themes of the play that involve aspects as the inferiority complex in the character Othello, the racial discrimination suffered by Othello, Iago’s manipulation, who uses every characters as they were puppets, and jealousy. Thus, we explored the factor evil which is the propulsive element of the tragic facts occurred in the play until Othello’s ruin. Therefore, we analyze Iago’s discourse and his power of convincing. Appearance versus reality was other theme studied in this paper.
