Abstract

Abstract: The following paper proposes to compare the science fiction masterpieces of the English Language Literatures: 1984, Fahnhereit 451 and Brave New World. The aim here is to propose a pattern on the books, showing that by controlling the memory, and consequently the past, it’s also possible to control the History. The visionary environment also enables them to be compared with the destruction of the books in the societies described through the three plots, with the same act of burning books, picturing the main fact which guides the whole analysis. The analysis ended up showing how important the motivation of reading at school is, to create a critical thinker in our society in which establishing the concepts of what reality and fiction is also presents the same persuasion and brainwashing described on the books, although tacit. To support the analysis it used the theories of what is fact and fiction when it comes to Literature and History, by Eagleton (2003), what are the aspects of a good Literature, by Lewis (2004), and the concepts of mimeses and verimilitude from Aristotle, interpreted by Costa (1992) and the concept of memory and its relation to the human development, by Lima (2009).
