JOURNAL POLICIES

 

The journal policies include detailed information about the target audience, endogeny, submission, editorial and publishing procedures, as well as guidelines for authors and reviewers. To ensure a seamless and ethical publishing process, all parties are introduced to their rights and responsibilities.

 

1. TARGET AUDIENCE

 

The journal is intended for students, professors, and researchers with a wide range of educational backgrounds and interested in general in the field of education, culture, language and art. The journal is available to the public in an online version, with free access. Users are allowed to search, download, copy and also print the full articles.

 

2. ENDOGENY

 

To prevent endogeny, the journal will not publish more than 30% of the articles in each issue from authors affiliated with Western Paraná State University. If this percentage is reached, priority will be granted to the received and accepted articles.

 

3. AUTHORSHIP

 

3.1 Anyone identified as the author must have made a substantial intellectual contribution to both the research and the writing of the article. They must be willing share responsibility for the research and the article and approve the final version to be published. Anyone who does not meet these criteria but has contributed to either the research or the writing of the article should be acknowledged and thanked in the “Acknowledgements” section at the end of the article.

 

3.2 Articles with co-authorship are accepted, with a limit of up to three (03) authors per submission. In cases where there is more than one author, the first author must inform the editor about the roles of all authors, according to the taxonomy provided by LCCRedit - Contributor Roles Taxonomy, which can be accessed here.

 

3.3 If the article is approved, no additional authors may be added beyond those registered at the time of submission.

4. AUTHORS' WARRANTIES

 

The authors are responsible for ensuring that:

 

4.1 The contribution is original and unpublished and is not under review for publication in another journal; otherwise, this must be justified in "Comments to the Editor."

 

4.2 Articles derived from dissertations or theses must mention the research in the abstract and introduction, with its reference included in the References section. Furthermore, the article must engage in dialogue with the original work (dissertation or thesis) rather than being a mere excerpt from it.

 

4.3 The article contains nothing that is abusive, defamatory, libelous, obscene, fraudulent, or illegal.

 

4.4 Non-compliance with any of the above conditions will be considered misconduct and dealt with accordingly. Similarly, if authors are found guilty of infringing any of the above, the Publisher will have the right to charge the authors to cover the expenses incurred by the journal for their article at the discretion of the Journal’s Editors and the Publisher.

 

4.5 In order to prevent unethical practices, Travessias has adopted the requirement that, at the time of submission, the corresponding author attaches the report of the analysis of his or her manuscript to the CopySpider software. If the manuscript is submitted without the report, the journal will notify the author of the need to send it and archive the submission. Travessias will review the submitted report and reserves the right to submit the manuscript for software review even if the report has been attached by the author.

 

4.6 Manuscripts written by PhDs and Masters will be accepted. Manuscripts from master's students, specialists, or graduates/undergraduates will be accepted if co-authored with a PhD researcher in the case of Master's students and co-authored with a Master's or PhD researcher in the case of specialists and graduates/undergraduates.

 

5. PEER REVIEW

 

Upon receipt by the Editorial Office, each submission is checked for suitability and may be rejected without review if it falls outside the scope of the journal, displays obvious insufficient quality, or lacks important sections.

 

5.1 The journal invites external experts (not only Editorial Board members) to review each article that is deemed suitable for consideration. The publication decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief after receiving at least two external reviewer reports with recommendations.

 

5.2 The author is encouraged to suggest suitable reviewers; however, the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Office reserve the right to select different reviewers. The reason for asking authors to suggest reviewers is that they are best placed to know who an expert in the field is. In addition, the suggested reviewers may be suitable for other articles within the same subject area. Therefore, obtaining these names can help the Editorial Office to ensure that it is approaching suitable people for reviewing all articles.

 

5.3 The journal uses double-blind peer review (neither the authors nor the reviewers know the identity of each other) to avoid bias.

 

5.4 On receipt of at least two reviews, the Editor-in-Chief will make a decision of (1) acceptance, (2) minor revision, (3) major revision, or (4) rejection. The reasons behind the decision will be communicated to the authors.

 

5.5 In the event that an article receives two reviews with many mandatory revisions suggested or one review in which many adjustments are required, at the editor's discretion, the article may be sent to a second round of evaluation.

 

5.6 When the decision determines that there are mandatory revisions, but the author(s) do not review their articles satisfactorily according to the recommendations of the reviewers, the Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to reject the article. When reviewed articles are received, they will be sent for further review or the Editor-in-Chief will make a decision depending on the level of review requested.

 

5.7 Once the article is diagrammed by the journal the article is sent to the metadata reviewer,who will check the standardization of the article'sabstract and prepare instructions to the author if necessary.At this stage,other adjustments may be requested bytheEditor-in-Chief of the journal.This diagrammed version with comments from the metadatareviewer and/or the Editor is sent to the author for proofreading and final adjustments to the text.

 

5.8 Once and the article is properly revised by the author and this version approved and adjusted by the author is received, within the deadline stipulated by the editor, the article is approved for publication.

 

5.9 The average period between the submission of an article, peer review and publication is 24 weeks and the period between submission and publication in a quarterly issue of the journal is no more than 16 weeks. The Editor-in-Chief makes every effort to minimize the time from submission to first decision.

6. AUTHOR APPEALS

 

The authors have the right to appeal the decision of rejection if they believe the decision was incorrectly made. To appeal the decision, the authors must email the journal, giving reasons why they think the decision was wrong. The appeal will be considered by a member of the Editorial Board who was not involved in the original decision (nominated jointly by the Editor-in-Chief and the Publisher). There is only one chance to appeal, so it is very important that the author clearly explains the justification for making an appeal.

 

7. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION (FILES)

 

The journal can accept supplementary files (information) that support the submitted article. Supplementary files should be provided along with the submission. They will not be formally reviewed but will be considered to determine whether they are needed in the article.

 

Note: The author bears full responsibility for the content of all supplementary files, and the disclaimer regarding supplementary information must clearly state that it has not been formally reviewed.

 

8. DATA SHARING

 

All researchers are encouraged to archive and share their data. Several grant funders now require this practice, and we also believe that this benefits research by enabling other researchers to reuse and reinterpret data for the benefit of all. The Editorial Board encourage all authors to make their data available in suitable repositories (for example FigShare or other similar repository) where the item will be safely archived and given a unique reference number (DOI or similar) that allows the data to be cited in the authors’ articles.

 

9. PERMISSIONS

The author is responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any material (e.g., figures, tables, texts) that has been previously published or created by another person. On request from the Editorial Office or Publisher, the author should be able to supply evidence of such permission.

 

10.CONFLICT OF INTEREST

 

10.1 A Conflict of Interest (COI) is defined as a situation in which personal relationships (such as friends, colleagues, or family), business relationships (such as working in a competing company), or financial influences (such as funding) might affect the judgement of any person during the publication of the journal.

 

10.2 The Author is obliged to declare any Conflict of Interest (COI) that may have affected his/her research (e.g. funding) or decision to submit to the journal in a footnote immediately after the title of the article and to the Editor-in-Chief in the form of a comment to the editor at the time of submission of the article.

 

10.3 Reviewers are required to disclose if they have any COI that may affect their judgement of any article they review. The COI may not prevent them reviewing the article, but it must be communicated to the Editor-in-Chief as soon as it is known.

 

10.4 Editors are excluded from any publishing decision in which they may have a COI. For example, if an article authored by a colleague of the Editor-in-Chief is submitted to the journal, the peer review and all editorial decisions will be managed by another editor.

 

11. PLAGIARISM AND COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT

 

The author is responsible for ensuring that their work is unique, and that they fully acknowledge the source of any content which is not entirely the authors’ own. The journal will check articles for plagiarism (i.e., articles reproducing any content without attribution and permission) using software such as CopySpider. The inclusion of plagiarized content is regarded as misconduct by the author.

 

12. EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE

 

The editors have the right to select the articles for publication consideration, as well as to accept or reject them, without any influence from the Publisher or other external bodies.

 

13. EDITORIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The journal editors have a duty to treat all submissions confidentially, and to ensure that judgements are made free of bias, and in a timely manner. Decisions on which articles to be published are the responsibility of the editors who also have a responsibility not to bring the journal into disrepute (by knowingly accepting bad quality or unethical articles or by failing to comply with the Journal Policies). The appointment of the Editorial Board is the duty of the Editor-in-Chief.

 

14. PUBLISHER RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Publisher has a duty to ensure the journal meets international standards concerning technology, archiving, data protection, and ethical policies.

 

15. OPEN ACCESS

 

15.1 Travessias journal is published under Open Access with a CC-BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, which allows the sharing of the work with proper attribution to the authors and initial publication in this journal. Open Access enables unrestricted sharing of academic information and helps promote knowledge worldwide.

 

15.2 Travessias journal supports Open Access as an equitable means of ensuring that scholarly research, usually funded by public institutions, is made universally accessible.

 

15.3 Open Access publications are more likely to be discovered, read, cited, and used for future research compared to those published in closed journals. The journal believes that making all the Content freely available and reusable is in the best interests of authors and their institutions, as well as the journal itself.

 

15.4 Authors retain copyright and grant Travessias the right of first publication, with the work simultaneously licensed under a CC-BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, which allows the sharing of the work with proper attribution to the authors and initial publication in this journal.

 

16. FEES AND CHARGES

 

16.1 The Travessias journal is the property of the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná / Western Paraná State University (Cascavel, Paraná, Brazil).

 

16.2 The Travessias journal operates as open access journal, and the process is completely free of charge for both authors and readers. All publication fees are covered by the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná / Western Parana State University (Cascavel, Paraná, Brazil).

 

17. CORRECTIONS

 

17.1 If an error is discovered after publication, it will be corrected by an erratum, retraction, or in-line (dated) correction. Both authors and readers are encouraged to notify the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief if there is anything that should be corrected.

 

17.2 Notified errors will be investigated by the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief and discussed with the authors. The appropriate correction will be made after this consultation.

 

17.3 Articles will be retracted if there is evidence of unethical research, unreliable data, misconduct, plagiarism, or if there are sufficient mistakes to invalidate the article.

 

18. MISCONDUCT

 

The Travessias journal adheres to the recommendations and policies of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding ethical policies and dealing with misconduct. Misconduct includes falsifying data, plagiarizing others' work, and breach of confidentiality. Each case will be considered by the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief.

 

19. COMPLAINTS

 

In the event that an author, reviewer, reader, or other person has a complaint against the Travessias journal or its editors, they should speak directly to the Publisher in the first instance. Whenever possible, the complaint will be dealt with by the relevant publishing or editorial person. If a resolution is not satisfactory, the complaint will be turned over to a more senior person for resolution.

 

20. PRIVACY STATEMENT

 

The Travessias journal respects your privacy and will make every reasonable effort to protect your personal data. This Privacy Policy describes the information of the personal data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. In compliance with Law No. 13,709/2018, General Data Protection Law (LGPD), the Data Protection Officer of Unioeste is designated through Ordinance No. 873/2021-GRE, in accordance with Resolution 013/2021-CGE.

20.1. Personal Information

 

Whilst using our website, you may be required to provide personal information (name, address, email, etc.). We will use this information to administer the journal’s online publication processes and databases. We will ensure that all personal information supplied is held securely.

 

20.2 Data Collection

 

We normally collect the following personal data from individuals when they register as users on the Travessias website: Name, Surname, Email, Affiliation, Country, User account details (username), ORCID iD (as the link to the researcher’s public profile on https://orcid.org/).

 

20.3 Purpose of Data Collection

 

This data is collected in order to allow an individual to register as an author, reviewer, or editor of the journal. This allows the individual to log in to the journal’s software and participate in the journal submission, review, and/or editorial process (where applicable).

 

20.4. How Data is Collected

 

20.4.1. Via online forms on our website. When you complete the user registration form or enter your details in a text box. All this information requires a direct action by you at that time in order for us to receive it.

 

20.4.1.2. When you give us written or oral permission. You may give us written permission (e.g., via email) or oral (e.g., by telephone or in-person) for us to set up an account on your behalf.

 

20.5. How Data is Stored

 

20.5.1. If you register as a user, your personal data will be stored in a database on our server. All your personal data will be accessible by Projeto Saber (Projeto SABER (https://e-revista.unioeste.br/), which takes the security of this database seriously.

 

20.5.2. The Editors of Travessias have access to your email address, name, and User ID via the website to fulfil the Editorial role and manage the publication process (including, but not limited to selecting reviewers, inviting submissions from registered authors, setting up user accounts on behalf of a reviewer or author with provided permission).

 

20.5.3. A third party will have access to the database only where strictly necessary for website maintenance or development. This access will be limited to the duration of the project. We take your privacy very seriously and actively take steps to ensure access is providing securely.

 

20.6. How Data is Used

 

The names, emails, and addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this online, open-access journal, and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

 

20.6. Email Notifications

 

20.6.1. If you are a registered user, you will receive automated email notifications from the journal software about submission or review processes in which you are involved.

 

20.6.2. If you are a registered user who has actively opted for the reviewer role (via an opt-in tick-box on the registration form), you may receive review requests by email from the Editorial team when an article has been submitted in your field of expertise.

 

20.6.3. Articles will be published with a correspondence address (email) for the corresponding author.

 

20.7. Direct Emails

 

20.7.1. On rare occasions, the editors may contact registered users who have not opted for the reviewer role to invite them to register as reviewers if an article has been submitted in their field of expertise and no appropriate registered reviewers are available.

 

20.7.2. Any registered user may be emailed directly by journal production team, technical support team or editors when necessary for providing access to their account or for completing the submission and publication process (e.g., if there are technical problems with the website).

 

20.8 Data about Reviewers

 

Once finished the quarterly volume, the full names and affiliations of reviewers that contributed to the journal during the year will be published on the journal’s website to acknowledge their valuable work for Travessias.

 

20.9. Data Retention Period

Personal information will be retained only for as long as permitted by applicable laws. Once we no longer require retaining your personal information, it will be securely deleted. You can check the details you have submitted to Travessias by contacting our support team: projeto.saber@unioeste.br. You may also contact us through the same method to modify, correct, or delete your personal information associated with your profile at any time. You can update your data at any time by contacting our support team.

 

21.Human Research Ethics Committee

 

When the article reports research carried out in an institution where there is an institutional committee for Ethics in Research with human beings that requires the researcher to have permission to carry out the research disclosed in the article, the permission must be informed in a footnote in the methodology section of the article.
