Abstract

This paper is about human questions of existing and knowledge in Sartre's philosophy. Both are intertwined in the human being, making it impossible to separate them beyond the academic field. However, Sartre presents the thesis that there is an ontological precedence of existing, of what is experienced over what is known. To support this perspective, some confrontations were necessary, such as: the deconstruction of a cogito proposed by Descartes, of a Freudian unconsciousness as the foundation of a fluid consciousness and, also, the expulsion of a pure Self from the Husserlian model. This was necessary to be faithful to the concept of intentionality of consciousness proposed by phenomenology. The understanding of consciousness as intentional, fluid, as constant movement outward is what we try to do further. In this sense, what is experienced is in the flow of consciousness itself. The known is there ahead and that is what the ontological precedence of existence comes from. The human recognition of this precedence of existence, as well as the full knowledge of this extrinsically human condition, occurs more easily through art, especially literature. From this, he focused on analyzing whether Sartre's literary works fulfill this function proposed by him.
