The article presents foundations for the LATINARTE project "Brazilian/Santa Catarina Modern Art in the cultural context of Latin America: production of virtual instructional content." The study aims to map the main material and conceptual intersections between Brazilian Modern Art in Santa Catarina and Modern Art in Latin America, with a view drive to a didactic audiovisual series that supports teaching practices. The geographical delimitation of the research covers the southern region of Latin
America, due to its territorial proximity to Brazil, more specifically Santa Catarina state; the consideration of the northern region, on the other hand, derives from the fact that Mexico, the only country in North America that is part of Latin America, has an outstanding production of modern art, showing crosses with productions of Brazilian Modernism. The research is classified around Applied Social Sciences. The article presents the theoretical framework of the research, regarding the definition
of Latin America and its modern art movement; furthermore, it discusses the first stage of application of practical research, in South American countries, focusing on socio-cultural aspects that define the aesthetic-formal aspects of their modernist art, in a period between 1920 and 1950.
