Abstract

The paper explores the nietzschean theme of the necessity of bad conscience for civilization against the grain of the illuminist ideal that civilization would represent a condition for improvement of humanity. This is to show that, for Nietzsche, there is here a strengthening of the human animal, but a weakening of own instincts of the human species.
