The relationship between the literary work and film production arouses many questions as the concept of adaptation that part of a narrative and usually is doomed to comparison or validation of their faithfulness to the novel. Thus, this study aims to reflect on the relationship between the construction of the characters and the plot in the literary space and filmic space in the works, the novel Desonra (2000), JM Coetzee and of the eponymous film Desonra (2008) directed by Steve Jacobs. The novel Desonra (1999) was translated into Portuguese as Disgrace by José Rubens Siqueira in 2000 for the Companhia das Letras publishing house. It is considered an adaptation, according to Diniz (2005), when there is a function of equivalence between the signs in different semiotic systems. Thus, one can understand the movie analyzed as an adaptation, since it was observed that the distributive functions were directly transferred to the film, in other words, the elements or actions that bind linearly to the text. The film work analyzed thus captures these elements and translates them for the film, keeping the thread of the story and the plot.
