Abstract

This is a study about two genres, primarily, short stories and series episodes, but intersecting them with each other and also with a music lyric and a painting. The aim is to demonstrate that there is a certain “chemistry” between the selected items, that is to say, a “natural alchemy” exercise. It also represents an academic approach where the following artwork were selected: “Amor”, a short story by Clarice Lispector; “Pilot”, the first episode of Breaking Bad; “Geopolitical child observing the birth of the new man”, a painting by Salvador Dalí; “Os cegos do Castelo”, a music lyric by Nando Reis. The main point, which will unite all of them is the awakening of a new man, for love/desire, based on concept about the mimetic desire, of french teoric René Girard, with the collective interdividuality, in other words, the individual interaction with Others. In this way, we will arrive at the resolution that the subject, in his socio-cultural interaction, is caused to desire something that does not belong to him, whether material or abstract, and consequently will act according, or not, to his moral and ethical principles to conquer such an object.
