The descriptors used were "urinary catheterization," "lidocaine" and "masculine". They have established themselves as inclusion criteria: original articles, published between 2004-2014, in Portuguese, English and Spanish with online text available in its entirety. The search took place in April 2015, and the final sample consisted of four articles. Results: The final sample consisted of four articles that bring the application of lidocaine 2 % gel in intra urethral bladder catheterization process for lubrication and analgesia. Conclusions: In view of the similarities of no statistical significance as the instillation of lidocaine or not in the urethra, it suggests the need to develop new studies that address the topic, as well as the adoption of institutional protocols based on protocols to practice clinic.
