Abstract

The Lukacsian project of elaborating an ethics resulted in the establishment of an ontology of the social being. Among the categories addressed by the author in this field of his thought, we draw attention to the notions of causality and teleology. Although these concepts are shown to be incompatible for an immediate look, Lukács argues that there is an articulation between them through the praxis of social being. This relationship is possible from the work and its teleological acts performed by the human being. To reinforce his position, the author seeks to point out misunderstandings in the thoughts of previous philosophers with regard to conceptions about the course of history and its supposed teleological character. Such a stance is taken with the intention of defending the thesis that teleology is only truly effective within the scope of the social being.
