Abstract

This work aims to analyze the escalation of José Mujica in the Uruguayan politics and the political and social situation of the country from the pre-dictatorship of the 1970’s to today. The National Liberation Movement-Tupamaros (MLN-T) that arose under dictatorial and was suppressed during the dictatorial period, the emergence and development of the Frente Amplio, and his arrival to the presidency by Uruguayan Tabaré Vázquez and later by José Mujica. Mujica who was born and lives in Montevideo, on a farm outside the city, was an active member of the MLN-T, getting stuck 13 years during the dictatorial period where freedom after being in politics began walking inside the country, where he was deputy in 1994, senator in 1999, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries in 2005 and the apex of the political scale Mujica would be winning the presidency of Uruguay, which won the 2009 elections, defeating the candidate of a traditional Uruguayan party, the National Party.
