Abstract

In this article, we aim to demonstrate the centrality of the theme of the image in the philosophy of Hans Jonas. We will focus our reflection on the ontological elements and their anthropological implications, insofar as Jonas's reflection shows how this issue is embedded in the constitution of man as homo pictor. By attempting a phenomenological description of visual perception, we will arrive at the definition of the image and, from there, to the understanding of its relationship with imagination. Finally, we intend to demonstrate how homo pictor presents itself as the original foundation of the constitution of homo faber and homo sapiens.
