Abstract

This article aims to build a brief overview about the urbanization process in Recife, highlighting its relationship with the local social and environmental inequalities and focusing the probable impacts of the current development model in the region. We also seek to characterize the environmental injustices that affect mainly the poorer classes occupant of wetlands. We did this by observing the reality of a poor community in Recife called "Bode", located on the margins of the mangrove in the district of Pina. From literature reviews and on-site observations we come to conclusion that the idea of Environmental justice has become increasingly urgent in the urban  management especially in cities such as Recife, which new environmental inequality situations are constantly appearing, given its recent economic and urban growth.
