Abstract

This research aims to understand the process of organizing the education of the deaf in Brazil between 1856 and 1911 based on the regulations of the Institute of the Deaf-Mutes, the current National Institute of Deaf Education. Therefore, it did the regulations that were searched, cataloged and interpreted via the Internet through the portal of the Chamber of Deputies and the University of Chicago portal. The research is based on primary sources and aims to build and / or reconstruct the historical knowledge about the education of the deaf in Brazil. Know the history of deaf education help us to understand the reality of the deaf schooling process in Brazil today.
